Schiller is Named Conference Coach of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Laurie Schiller, Northwestern's women's fencing coach, was named Midwest Fencing Conference Coach of the year for the 1998-99 season. Schiller shares the honor with Michigan coach, Jim Vesper. Schiller's fencing team compiled an overall record of 24-5 last year. They also achieved records of 26-8 in Foil and 27-7 in Ep?e. His team has an overall record of 49-12 in the last two seasons. In addition, Northwestern fencers finished 19th at the NCAA championships.

Two seasons ago, Schiller was selected USFA National Coach of the Year. He was also named to the USFA's all-decade team for the 1980s, comprised of fencers, coaches and administrators.
