Women's Tennis Plays Well at Wake Forest Invitational

The Northwestern women's tennis team was one of six teams competing at the 1998 Wake Forest Invitational held at the Leighton Tennis Stadium last weekend.

Senior Laura Guignon (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) took third place in Flight B Singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sabrina Pardo from Virginia Tech. Junior Jennifer Lutgert (Evergreen, Colo./University of Nebraska Independent Study) finished third in Flight C Singles with a hard-fought 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-0 quarterfinal win over Rice's Charlotte Feasby and then a 6-0, 1-0 retired triumph over Virginia Tech's Beth Fulton.

Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) was the Wildcats' top finisher in the Flight A Singles bracket. The sophomore captured fifth place with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Marie-Eve Girard from South Florida.

In doubles, Guignon and junior Katherine Nasser (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) finished fifth in Flight A with an 8-6 victory over Verban and Houston from Wake Forest.

The Wildcats are next in action Oct. 17-25 at the ITA All-American Championships held in Los Angeles, California.
