EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) - On the same day Northwestern said goodbye to its football coach, the Big Ten university announced that women's basketball coach Don Perrelli will retire at the end of the season.
Perrelli has led the Wildcats to six postseason appearances and five 20-victory seasons.
"In his 15 years at Northwestern he has come to embody the combination of excellence in athletics and academics to which we all strive. We will miss him greatly," Northwestern athletic director Rick Taylor said Wednesday.
His record is 422-244 at Northwestern, St. John's and Southern Connecticut State, where he graduated in 1961.
Perrelli said he announced his decision now so the school will have plenty of time to find a replacement.
