WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Northwestern Wildcats captured four of six titles at the 1998 Boilermaker Men's Tennis Classic hosted by Purdue University this weekend.
Freshman Joost Hol (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) grinded out a 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(5) victory over Iowa's Jake Wilson to be named the A Flight Singles champion. Sophomore Brad Erickson (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) advanced to the finals of the B Flight Singles with a three-set win over Ulf Jentler from Iowa in the semifinals. Erickson knocked off Purdue's Laith Al-Agba for the title, 6-3, 6-2.
Erickson and Hol teamed up to take the A Flight Doubles championship with an 8-5 triumph over Iowa's Dunn and Jentler. The other champions for Northwestern were sophomore Derrick Nguyen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) and freshman Jamie Sahara (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph) who scored a 9-8(6) victory over a tandem from Iowa to win the B Flight Doubles competition.
This week, Northwestern sends seniors Marc Silva and Doug Bohaboy to the ITA All-American Championships being held at the University of Texas from Oct. 10-19. Bohaboy will compete in the Qualifying round on Tuesday while Silva gets started in the Main Draw on Thursday.
