Wildcat Athletes of the Week
Male: Joost Hol, Tennis
Freshman Joost Hol (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) was a double winner at the 1998 Boilermaker Classic. He picked up Player of the Week honors in his first collegiate event by capturing the Flight A Singles championship with a 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(5) victory over Iowa's Jake Wilson in the final. Hol then teamed with sophomore Brad Erickson (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) to claim the Flight A Doubles title. The duo defeated a team from Iowa 8-5 in the final.
Female: Wendy DeFord, Field Hockey
Senior forward Wendy DeFord (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) spun around a defender and scored with just under three minutes left to lift the Northwestern field hockey team to a 3-2 victory at Iowa on Friday afternoon. It marked Wildcats' third-straight win over the Hawkeyes and also was the 300th win in NU field hockey history.
