U.S. National Team Out Swims Big Ten All Stars

EVANSTON, Ill. - The United States National Team was victorious in 23 of the 32 events swam this weekend against the Big Ten All-Stars in the Swim Meet of Champions held at Norris Aquatics Center.

Sabir Muhammed had a tremendous performance for the U.S. National Team, setting pool records on his way to victories in the 100-yard butterfly (55.80) and the 50-yard freestyle (23.43). Muhammed also was a member of the record-setting 400-yard freestyle relay, as the U.S. team took first place with a time of 3:28.85.

On the womens side, 1996 Olympic gold medalist Christina Teuscher was the star, capturing three individual victories. Teuscher set pool records in the 800-yard freestyle (8:46.75), 200-yard individual medley (2:20.69) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:49.93).

Northwestern junior Courtney Allen (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) was one of the bright spots for the Big Ten All-Stars. Allen qualified for the Olympic trials by winning the 50-yard freestyle in a pool record time of 26.25. She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.67).
