EVANSTON, Ill. - Six of Northwestern's 10 in-season sports are currently ranked among the nation's elite teams. Laurie Schiller's women's fencing team holds NU's top national ranking, entering this week's NCAA Championships as the No. 8 team in the country.
The NU men's golf squad is ranked 11th in the country. Sophomore Luke Donald is the top-ranked collegiate golfer in the country according to the latest Golfstat Cup rankings. Donald is averaging 70.2 strokes per round this season as 17 of his 20 competitive rounds have been shot either at or below par. He is scheduled to be featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section in an upcoming issue of Sports Illustrated.
The women's swimming and diving team has earned a ranking of No. 12 while the wrestling team stands 19th in the country. Both of those sports compete in their respective NCAA Championships this week (March 18-20).
Both Northwestern tennis teams continue to climb the national polls as well. The NU men's tennis team currently stands No. 30 in the country while the women's tennis team, under first-year head coach Claire Pollard, is 32nd in the country.
