Northwestern Athletes of the Week

Female: Shannon Duffy, Women's Tennis
Sophomore Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas/Plano) had four wins in two NU matches over the weekend to bring both her Big Ten singles and doubles records to a perfect 6-0. Against Penn State, Duffy defeated No. 3 Martina Kopakova 6-0, 6-2, and teamed with Leigh Weinraub to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles. Against Ohio State, Duffy defeated No. 2 Briana Harris 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, and won with Weinraub 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Male: J.J. Standring, Baseball
Sophomore right-hander J.J. Standring (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) threw his first career shutout in Northwestern's 1-0 win against Illinois on Saturday. Standring gave up only six hits and walked none in the seven-inning complete-game effort, giving NU its first shutout win over Illinois since 1992. He also was named Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance.
