EVANSTON, Ill. - Approximately 200 students from Northwestern University and The Ohio State University will take part in Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 24. These students will work together to perform community service in the Chicagoland Area on the morning of the Northwestern/Ohio State football game. They will then come back to Ryan Field to watch their respective schools do battle on the gridiron.
The following organizations have been selected as beneficiaries of community service projects:
Keep Evanston Beautiful, a not-for-profit agency that works in conjunction with the American Beautification Campaign, primarily focusing on education and promotion of recycling.
Youth Organization Umbrella, a youth services agency that offers help such as emergency housing, counseling and outreach to people between the ages of 10 and 21.
Better Existence with HIV, provides information, support, resources and hope to those living with HIV.
Hilda's Place, a homeless shelter in northeast suburban Cook County.
The Evanston Shelter, a home for battered women and their children.
Family Focus, a center that provides workshops for new parents, parent-child activities and after-school programs for children.
The eighth annual Make a Difference Day is sponsored by USA WEEKEND in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation. Last year, approximately 1.3 million people turned out to volunteer, creating the largest participation ever in simultaneous volunteerism.
