STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Northwestern won its third-straight 4-3 dual match, this time defeating Penn State on the road. The Wildcats have now won five of their last seven matches and are 9-7 overall, 4-2 in the Big Ten.
Penn State took an early 1-0 lead after its No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams won. But, Northwestern captured four of the six singles matches for the victory. The Wildcats clinched the win when freshman Joost Hol (Santa Ana, Calif.) defeated Jeff Martini at the No. 5 singles position, despite suffering an ankle injury that significantly reduced his mobility late in the match.
Northwestern will next be in action on Sat., Apr. 17 vs. Purdue at 12 p.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston.
