Men's Swimmers Dominate Windy City Invitational

EVANSTON , Ill. - The Northwestern men's swimming and diving team won the Windy City Invitational Championship hosted by Illinois-Chicago by winning 14 out of the 20 events including all five relays. NU defeated four other schools, finishing with a team score of 896.5 points. Southern Illinois University came in second place with 844 points and was followed by UW-Milwaukee, University of Illinois at Chicago and UW-Green Bay.

Senior Brian Walters (Wyndmoor, Pa./William Penn Charter) and junior Steve Harms (Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) tied for first place in individual points. Walters won two events, the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.24), 200-yard freestyle (1:42.02), and Harms won two events, the 400-yard IM (4:06.81) and 800-yard freestyle relay, and came in second place twice. Senior Bill Johnson (Toledo, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales) came in a close third place individually, winning the 200-yard IM (1:54.48), the 400-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Steve Steketee (Golden, Colo./Golden.) won the 100-yard freestyle (45:97) tying for fourth place individually. Northwestern had six swimmers who placed among the top ten individual finishers.

The Wildcats return to action Thursday, Dec. 3, when they travel to College Station, Texas for the U.S. Open.
