EVANSTON, Ill. - The No. 12-ranked Northwestern mens golf team fired the low round of the day, a 3-under-par 285, and finished second at the NCAA Central Regionals in Columbus, Ohio. The Wildcats finished the 54-hole tournament at 4-over-par 868, three shots behind Minnesota. Junior David Shaffer (Andover, Mass./Andover) carded the teams low round for the second consecutive day, shooting a 3-under-par 69.
Sophomore Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England) posted a final round 70 to finish in second-place overall at 213 (-3), one shot behind James McLean of Minnesota. Shaffer (tied for 5th) and senior Josh Habig (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) (tied for 10th) also finished in the top-10.
The Wildcats advance to the NCAA Championships to be held May 31-June 5 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Practice rounds will be held Mon.-Tue., May 31-June 1. The first round of the 72-hole tournament begins Wed., June 2.
