EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's men's and women's swimming teams have each earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American accolades. Among women's teams, NU placed 13th with a 3.34 grade point average. In the men's rankings, the Wildcats took 25th with a 2.95 grade point average.
NU was one of 10 schools to have both their men's and women's swimming teams ranked in the top 25. Among Big Ten schools, NU's women had the highest team GPA and the men had the third-highest team GPA.
The Wildcat women had three swimmers who achieved individual Academic All-American honors: junior Amy Balcerzak, junior Dominique Diezi and graduate Joy Stover.
To qualify for CSCAA Academic All-American honors, the student-athlete must be a sophomore, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) and must have qualified for last year's NCAA championships.
To qualify for the Academic All-America team award, an entire swimming and diving team must have compiled a GPA of at least a 2.80 (on a 4.0 scale). This also includes all team members on the eligibility list.
