October 13, 1998

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's and women's golf programs are both ranked in the top 20 in this week's Golfweek/Taylor Made poll. NU is the only Big Ten Conference school to currently have both their men's and women's golf programs among the nation's top 20 and one of just seven programs overall.

The Wildcat men are tied for 14th nationally with LSU. NU has notched top-three finishes in all three of this fall's tournaments, including a runner-up finish at last week's Windon Memorial Classic. The 'Cats are led by sophomore All-American Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School), who has shot 13-under-par through eight rounds this year.

The NU women's team is tied for 17th nationally, the highest-ranking ever for the program. The Wildcats have posted back-to-back third-place finishes this fall. Freshman Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) has finished among the top 10 in both tournaments this season and leads the team with a 79.4 stroke average.

The women's team takes part in the Big Ten-Big 12 Collegiate Shootout, scheduled for October 12-13 in Franklin, Ind. The men's team travels to Durham, N.C., this weekend for the Duke Golf Classic.

Five of Northwestern's 10 in-season sports have been ranked in the top 25 this season. Women's soccer has been ranked as high as No. 9 this year, followed by field hockey at No. 18 and women's volleyball was ranked 21st earlier this season.
