EVANSTON, Ill. - A trio of preseason All-Americans leads the Windon Memorial Classic following Monday's first round. Northwestern sophomore Luke Donald, Texas freshman David Gossett and Stanford senior Joel Kribel each posted a score of four-under-par 68 to lead the tournament by one stroke entering Tuesday's final round. The tournament was shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes due to Monday morning's rain in the Chicagoland area.
A total of 16 players shot par or better in the first round. Donald notched one of only four eagles recorded in round one, knocking in his iron shot on the 363-yard, par-4 11th hole. Gossett also recorded an eagle, notching a three on the 544-yard, par-5 seventh hole. The other two eagles were recorded by Texas A&M's Ryan Palmer and Miami's Adam Speirs.
Stanford leads the team standings at four-under-par 284, five strokes ahead of Wake Forest. The Wildcats are tied with Oklahoma for fifth place at 294.
Other Wildcat scores from round one were Danny Riskam (t17th, 73), Josh Habig (t30th, 75), Erik Ciotti (t46th, 78) and Jess Daley (t53rd, 80). Northwestern will tee off beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and will be paired with Florida and Oklahoma.
