EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern sophomore Luke Donald (High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England/Royal Grammar School) was named today as the Big Ten Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.
Donald captured the individual crown at last weekend's Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate Championships in Pottsboro, Texas with a 10-under-par 206, finishing four strokes ahead of Minnesota's James McLean, last year's NCAA individual champion.
It marked the second-straight tournament title and the third in four tournaments for Donald. He won the Aldila Collegiate Classic on March 8-9 as well as The Nelson tournament on Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Donald is averaging 70.00 strokes per round during NU's eight tournaments this season. He has finished either first or second in six of NU's eight tournaments.
Nationally, he ranks No. 2 in the Golfstat Cup standings, No. 4 by Golfweek and No. 6 in the Mastercard standings. Donald has led Northwestern to 10th in the Mastercard national team rankings and 13th by Golfweek and Golfstat. The Wildcats next tournament is April 8-10 at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va.
