Kurella Earns Big Ten Honor

EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Kurella (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) has been named the shortstop on the preseason Big Ten All-Conference Team selected by Baseball America magazine.

Last season's Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American hit .332 with three home runs and 39 runs batted in while starting at shortstop in all 53 Northwestern games in 1998. He led the Big Ten in assists (183) and was third in double plays turned (45).

The Wildcats finished 1998 with a 27-26 record. They begin 1999 play Feb. 18 in Phoenix, Ariz., against the University of the Pacific.
