Field Hockey Nearly Upsets No. 17 Ohio State, Falls 3-2

September 26, 1998

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Katie Hobson scored with 0:00 remaining on the clock as the 17th-ranked Buckeyes held off the Wildcats on Friday, 3-2. OSU improves to 5-1 overall, 1-0 Big Ten. NU drops to 4-5 overall, 0-1 Big Ten.

After a scoreless first half, OSU's Jayne Landis opened the scoring with goals off penalty corners at the 28:36 and 16:11 marks. The Wildcats answered with goals by Shanel Gohsler at the 15:57 mark and Amy Haase at 13:18 for a 2-2 tie.

As time expired, the Wildcats were whistled for a defensive foul. A field hockey contest cannot end on a defensive foul, thus Ohio State was awarded a penalty corner. NU goalie Jess Yates stopped the initial shot, but Hobson found the back of the cage on the rebound for the game-winner.

The Wildcats travel to Penn State for a Sunday matchup with the Lady Lions. The match starts at noon EDT.
