EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern center Evan Eschmeyer (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) was named today to the John Wooden Award Mid-Season Top 30 list. The mid-season team members are considered leading candidates for The Wooden Award, presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club to the college basketball player of the year. Eschmeyer is one of only two true centers to earn a spot on the Wooden Award's mid-season team. The other is Washington senior Todd MacCulloch.
Eschmeyer currently leads the Big Ten Conference with five double-doubles in just nine games this season. He ranks second in the Big Ten in rebounds (9.3 rpg) and is third in both scoring (20.7 ppg) and field goal percentage (.653).
On Monday, he was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week after recording double-doubles against Boston College (23 points, 10 rebounds) and Long Beach State (16 points, 13 rebounds).
