Evan Eschmeyer Named Big Ten Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern center Evan Eschmeyer (New Knoxville, Ohio/New Knoxville) has been named the Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced this morning. It is the third time this season that Eschmeyer has earned the honor.

Last week, Eschmeyer led the Wildcats to victories over Michigan at home (58-34) and Penn State on the road (71-67). He averaged just over a point a minute, totaling 57 markers in the two games while playing a combined 56 minutes. He scored a season-high 29 points against Michigan and 28 versus Penn State. He grabbed 15 rebounds against the Wolverines and had seven versus the Nittany Lions.

Through games of Feb. 7, Eschmeyer was the nation's only player averaging over 20 points and 10 rebounds a game. He leads the Wildcats with 20.7 ppg and 11.0 rpg.

Northwestern (14-6, 6-4 Big Ten) is in fourth place in the conference. Its next game is Wed., Feb. 10, at 14th-ranked Wisconsin. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
