Eschmeyer Named One of 10 Finalists for National Player of the Year

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Evan Eschmeyer has been named one of 10 finalists for the Oscar Robertson Award, presented by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to the National Player of the Year. The 6'11", 255-pound center currently leads the Big Ten in three statistical categories: rebounds (10.9 per game), field goal percentage (.602) and double-doubles (11). His 19.8 points per game ranks third in the conference.

Northwestern (12-6, 4-4 Big Ten) is currently tied for fifth place in the Big Ten Conference standings. The Wildcats host Michigan on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tickets are available by calling the Wildcat ticket office at 847-491-CATS.

The other nine players named as finalists for the award were: Elton Brand (Duke), Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State), Baron Davis (UCLA), Steve Francis (Maryland), Richard Hamilton (UConn), Trajan Langdon (Duke), Andre Miller (Utah), Lee Nailon (TCU) and Wally Szczerbiak (Miami of Ohio).
