DeFord Named to All-Big Ten Field Hockey Second Team

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior forward Wendy DeFord (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) has been named to the All-Big Ten field hockey second team. The announcement was made by the conference office in conjunction with this weekend's Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. This marks the second-straight year that DeFord has earned a spot on the all-conference second team.

DeFord currently ranks second on the Wildcats in scoring with a career-high 12 points. Her four goals this season matches her previous best as a sophomore while her four assists also is a career-best. She has two game-winning goals this season, the first of which came on Sept. 11 against Miami (Ohio). The second game-winning goal, which was scored on Oct. 9 at Iowa, came with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Northwestern (7-12 overall, 2-8 Big Ten) is the No. 6 seed in this weekend's Big Ten Tournament. The Wildcats face No. 3 seed Ohio State today at 1 p.m. CST. The winner will face second-seeded Michigan in Saturday's semifinals at 1 p.m. CST.
