EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern (1-2) came back from a 6-0 deficit to post its first win of the year, 9-8 over Pacific in the third day of the Oakland A's/Rawlings Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
Junior pitcher Dan Padgett (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) was overpowering in six innings of relief work, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out six. Junior outfielder Jason Anderson (Rockford, Ill./East) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. His double in the sixth inning knocked in the 'Cats first two runs, which he followed by hitting a home run, NU's first of the year, in the eighth.
Sophomore shortstop Jeremy Kurella (Dunedin, Fla./Dunedin) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth on an infield hit.
Northwestern plays Kansas tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. in its final game in Phoenix.
