EVANSTON, Ill. - At halftime of the Northwestern vs. Illinois football game this Saturday, Oct. 3, Northwestern will honor its 1949 Rose Bowl team. It has been 50 years since the 1948 team made the trip to Pasadena and downed California, 20-14. An amazing 40 members from that team will be on the field Saturday.
Also at halftime, Alex Sarkisian, the captain of the 1949 Rose Bowl team, will be honored for his upcoming induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. Jay Berwanger, the first-ever winner of the Heisman Trophy, will present Sarkisian with a commemorative plaque from the College Football Foundation.
