11th-Ranked NU Women's Swimmers Finish Fifth at SMU Classic

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Northwestern women's swimming and diving team finished fifth out of six schools in the prestigious SMU Classic in Dallas, Texas. The six teams participating in the meet are all ranked in the top 13 nationally.

The highlight of the meet for the Wildcats came in the final event, as the relay team of juniors Courtney Allen (Monument, Colo./Air Academy), Kelly Igoe (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope), Allyson Bowman (Columbus, Ohio/Columbus Academy) and Dominique Diezi (Zurich, Switzerland, Kantonsschule Stadelhofen) set a pool record in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:33.86. Junior Amy Balcerzak (Sharon, Pa./The Peddie School) and Allen (Monument, Colo./Air Academy) each recorded second place finshes. Balcerzak finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a season-best 1:03.37, while Allen took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.42.

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, November 12 against Wisconsin at 6:00 p.m. at the Norris Aquatic Center.
