"Scotty" Finlayson was an outstanding athlete in basketball, football and track during his high school days. Unfortunately, his athletic career seemed to come to an abrupt halt when he lost a leg due to an accident his senior year.
As a Northwestern undergraduate, despite his disability, Finlayson could not resist athletic competition. Undaunted, he joined the Wildcat water polo team, a sport completely new to him. His grit, determination and athletic ability proved instrumental to the team's success. During Finlayson's career as a water polo player, he helped lead the Wildcats to two Big Ten Championships and a second-place finish. He was a true leader and an inspiration to both his teammates and classmates.
